Biographies of Majors Lorne and Barbara Pritchett
Major Lorne Pritchett was born 1956 in Gambo the eighth child of eleven to Curtis and Classie Pritchett. He moved with his family to Grand Falls-Windsor at the age of nine.
Prior to entering Training College in 1975, Major Lorne worked with the Carmelite Hotel, Brookfield Ice Cream and the Department of Highways. His first appointment was Seal Cove, White Bay.
Major Barbara Pritchett, nee Randell, was born the second of four children to Roy and Ethel Randell of Corner Brook. Prior to entering Training College in 1974, Barbara worked for the Newfoundland Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. She held three appointments as a single officer – Lower Lance Cove, Creston and Manual’s Cove.
Lorne and Barb were married on December 28, 1977. Their appointments took them to Seal Cove, White Bay; Griquet; Acton (pioneering), Ontario; Elliott Lake, Ontario; Huntsville, Ontario; College for Officer Training – Toronto; Secretary for Candidates- Territorial Headquarters, Toronto and then to St. John’s Temple in 1994, from where they retired in January, 2003. For 8 ½ years, Lorne held the post as the Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Bible Society, Newfoundland and Labrador District while Barb was engaged as a Salvation Army chaplain for the hospitals.
Lorne wanted to share with you the following statement:
I used to think that through our reckless and relentless sinning, we left God no choice but to move us to ‘plan B’. I no longer believe that. I believe in the face of sincere repentance, God’s thorough and perfect, intensive and extensive redemption through Christ, can move us immediately to a brand new ‘plan A’. Ask the prodigal son. It was not the garb of garbage he was given, but the ring, the robe and the roast! ‘Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he [she] is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.’ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
On July 1, 2011 The Pritchetts were honored to be appointed to Conception Bay South as Corps Officers.
The Pritchett’s have two children, Elizabeth and John and four delightful grandchildren, Josiah, Annie, Maisy and Charlie.
Elizabeth, a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, is a high school teacher in Mount Pearl NL, and is married to Christan Murphy.
John is in management in the retail sector and is married to Michelle Burditt of Sault Ste. Marie.
